After getting back from our backpack on Wednesday afternoon, it was time to unload the car and start packing for the next adventure: Big Sky Lake. My friend Elizabeth invited the book club up to her lake cabin on Thursday and then the husbands all joined us on Friday afternoon. So after work on Thursday we headed up to the lake about an hour north of Missoula. Friday morning after pancakes we took a run around the lake, then relaxed the rest of the day in the Relaxation Station and the dock. Jessie went kayaking for the first time and loved it. We had a big grill-out on Friday night and that then I finally got to sleep in the camper van for the first time. Saturday four of us girls swam out to an island and back and then there was some more hangout time and a canoe trip. It was a fun, jam-packed weekend with 15 adults, 5 kids, and 3 dogs. Sammy and Lucy were so tired on Saturday they didn't even go swimming. That's unheard of.

Book Club Summer Camp Week
Where to start? This week Jessie and I had quite week of adventures. My friend Monica said it felt like we were in summer camp, and I think that was a pretty good description. On Tuesday evening after work, four of the women in my book club set off on an one night backpack in the Rattlesnake with our daughters. Four women, 4 kids, 2 strollers, and 3 dogs made for quite the crew. We picked the Rattlesnake because it is 10 minutes from town and the trail is flat and wide. Progress was slow as you might imagine because Jessie and Astrid (2 years) wanted to walk a lot of the time. Jen's daughter Ellie (10 years) was wonderful with Jessie and Astrid and they adore her and listen to everything she says. We estimate we got about 4 miles in and that took 3 hours --- thank goodness for long summer Montana days. It was Jessie's first taste of backcountry camping, and she seemed to have a ball. Her first question when we got in the car to go home was, "Mama, can we do that again some time?" Exactly the reaction I was hoping for.

Kiddopalooza
Last week we went to Kiddopalooza, a fund raiser by the organization that does the Children's Museum. Jessie got to tie-dye her own t-shirt (pardon the view of the helper's chest), jump in bouncy castles, do a gymnastics course, eat ice cream and a all kinds of other stuff. There was an inflatable water slide that she wanted her bathing suit on for, but she never could get up the courage to do it. The white hat is one she decorated at school and is very proud to wear. Whatever keeps the sun off her face I'm happy with.
